Between the mountains and the sea lie the hills, plains, rivers, lakes and beaches of the Horowhenua. Said to have the most moderate climate in the world, the Horowhenua has it all and has it easy.
Visitors to the Horowhenua can travel with ease to the remote wilderness or the excitement of the cities and experience almost everything New Zealand has to offer within a short traveling distance.
When travelling north, after arriving in Wellington, the Kapiti-Horowhenua region is the first taste of rural NZ. Only an hour away from Wellington you get the feel of real NZ as you drive along the coastal road passing cafes, beaches, museums, island trips, wineries, unique nature parks and many other attractions.
Keep your eye out for the signs as the region has many an attraction off the beaten track. Better still grab one of the many maps of the regions attractions at the information centres clearly signposted with an " i ".
One of the fastest growing regions in NZ people are attracted to the area for the ease of living and moderate climate. Lifestyle blocks are very popular as you can live the country life and commute to the city. Beaches provide safe swimming as do the mountain streams and there are nature walks everywhere.
If you are travelling south, on your way to the South Island, you are far better to stay in one of the many motels or camping grounds in the Kapiti-Horowhenua area before you catch the Cook Strait Ferry.
